I set up my still lives from things on my grandma’s mantel. These things are important to me because they all have a story behind them in my mind. Some have been there ever since I can remember and give my grandparent’s house a sense of familiarity to me, and some of them come from far away places they have traveled like the ceramic and glass pomegranates they got in Hungary. The three angels hold a special place in my heart because I always used to ask to play with them when I was little and once and awhile as a special treat, my grandma would take them down and let me play with them carefully for a little bit. I love hearing all about their travels and seeing all of the things that they bring back with them. It is important for me to document these still lives because I want to preserve all of the memories I have from sitting around the table talking about the different experiences they had, the places they saw, and the treasures they bring back. Sometimes they even bring me back something from their trips and these images remind me of their adventures and all of the places I would like to see for myself someday.
